Gargoyle Tattoos
Gargoyles have been around for more than one thousand years. It has been an increasingly popular tattoo design due to its appearance and mystique. They are elaborately grotesque characters believed to be protectors from evil spirits and guardians of buildings and their occupants. They are meant to act as amulets and talismans of protection.
Some gargoyles are featured with open mouths with rainwater gushing out. Their talons, tails and horns are also well displayed. Once the water flushes out of the gargoyle’s mouth, it becomes sacred. Other gargoyles do not spout water. They are purely for ornamental purposes and are more properly referred to as “chimera”. They usually combine features of two or more different animals. The griffin is among the popular chimeras. It has the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Sometimes, they are depicted with an eagle’s talons or a lion’s claws and occasionally with elongated ears. Often, they are featured in royal crests due to the fact that the lion and the eagle are considered to be symbols of nobility.
Gargoyles are also said to bring good omen. They also have the ability to outcast evil spells. This is one of the many reasons why gargoyle tattoos are among the favorites of people. Gargoyles are usually done in dark colors. Other times, the colors red, blue and purple are also used. They are usually placed on the back, arms, or even legs. One great idea is to ink a gargoyle on the shoulders with the water trickling down the arm or the back or the front of the body.
Gargoyle tattoos are challenging works of art. The tattoo artist has to boost his or her imagination to create a unique picture that may combine two or more symbols. This tattoo is perfect for people who want to symbolize protection, guardian, nobility, death defying attitude and bravery.
