Gothic Tattoos
Gothic tattoos are great way to complete the gothic look. The Goth sub culture developed in Europe and United States in the late 1970’s. They are highly creative and artistic people with a strong intellectual bent. This tendency reflects in their choice of tattoo designs. Gothic tattoos form a category of their own. They are instantly recognizable as they complement their style along with multiple piercings.
Fantasy images dominate gothic tattoos. Fairies and dragons are one of these. Gothic fairies are usually done in red or black and occasionally in blue or even brown. These reflect their imaginative tastes and interests. Medieval images are also popular as they also tend to be fantastical. It is a nod to the older religions and belief systems. To them, fantasy world is not just whimsical, it has also its own sets of dangers.
Occult images relating to witch craft, tarot, runes, oracles and other mystic crafts are also part of the Goth world so these also make popular design tattoos. Examples of these are the pentacle or the five pointed star, the athame or the double edged blade used in Wiccan rituals and other symbols related to the four elements- earth, air, fire and water. These objects are related to ancient religions practiced before Christianity. They are no way connected with Satanism or evil practices. These ancient religions became underground when Christianity was on the rise. To get a Gothic tattoo design of these things actively seek out and celebrate these images.
Winged creatures also make their way to the gothic tattoos family. Bats, especially, are the most popular among these winged creatures. It can be illustrated simply or as an otherworldly creature. To make it more artsy, bat wings are heavily detailed and placed on the upper back.
Crosses are also a theme in the Goth culture. Goth cross tattoos are usually done with spider webs, vines, a rose bud or skulls as accompanying pieces. Some are made to look like a tombstone cross.
Gothic tattoos are widely varied. This is due to the fact it reflect the various interests of people who see themselves as part of Goth culture. Some are socially acceptable to others but a lot of them make for interesting conversation pieces.
