Grim Reaper Tattoos

Grim Reaper tattoos are very popular because they evoke a lot of meanings. There are many versions of stories circulating about the true nature of the Grim Reaper. Popularly known as Death, it is said that it looks sad because of human suffering and it doesn’t have any choice but to reap the souls of the dying to free them from their agony. Some stories suggest that Death has no feelings and he simply does its job as he has been damned forever to do hence his expressionless tone. Other stories reveal that Death has an evil nature because it takes pleasure in taking souls.

Tattoo ideas for the Grim Reaper includes drawing it with a black flowing robe and armed with a scythe. The scythe represents the separation of the human soul from the body. If it is done in a small scale, it can be placed almost anywhere on the body. When done in larger scale, it can be a stunning work of art. With intricate designs and fine tuned shading, Death can look as haunting as one perceives it to be.

Grim Reaper tattoos can also be done in a comical or cartoonish way. Design elements for this tattoo idea include toilets, joker hats, and pop out eyeballs. Instead of a scythe, musical instruments such as an electrical guitar or a violin may be used instead. To give the Grim Reaper tattoo a more edgy look, flames and smoke can also be added. Others go as far as including foggy graveyard scenes and other hallow sceneries. Most Grim Reaper tattoos are done in black or grey shades, but other colors can be used as well. Red can be used as the color of the robe or whenever blood or a rose is included in the total design. Blue shades are used for swirling clouds or smoke and the blade of the scythe. Yellow is used on Death’s eyes or to the sunset or the moon incorporated in the design. The color orange can be used in the flames or on the Grim’s eyes. Almost any kind of colors can be used on Death’s robe.

Other Grim Reaper tattoos feature Death riding a horse. This idea came from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as mentioned in the bible. According to the Bible, the fourth horseman, Death, is described as carrying a scythe and riding a pale horse.
